MEADOWBROOK HALL – An 88,000 square foot estate, former home to Matilda Dodge Wilson and Alfred Wilson, is a national historic landmark. With 110 rooms, Tiffany stained glass, elaborately detailed carved wood and stone, and ornate plaster ceiling, this beautiful mansion represents one of the finest examples of Tudor-revival architecture in America. The estate also features an outdoor ampitheatre that hosts many popular musicians each summer. VAN HOOSEN FARMS – Pumpkin Wall- Each fall, this 16-acre museum complex dating back to 1823, and featuring a restored dairy barn, farmhouse, red house, and a one-room school house welcomes the community to their festival. Attendees are encouraged to carve a jack-o-lantern during the daytime and then return at night to see them shine along the museum’s wall. The museum hosts more than 200 field trips a year from students in kindergarten through third grade. PAINT CREEK TRAIL – An 8.9-mile rail trail linear park used for a combination of recreation and exercise, with activities such as walking, jogging, running, cycling, and horseback riding. Motor vehicles are not permitted. The trail is conductive to other outdoor activities such as geocaching and bird watching; as well as trout fishing in Paint Creek. OAKLAND UNIVERSITY – In 1957, Matilda and Alfred Wilson donated their residence, its collections, the estate’s 1,500 acres and $2 million to found Oakland University. OU is a top-rated academic institution in southeast Michigan offering 132 bachelor’s degree programs and 124 graduate degree and certifications. The “Grizzlies” play in the D1 athletic division. YOUTH SPORTS - There are many opportunities for your children to participate in sporting events. Some of these include: RYSL (Rochester Youth Soccer League), RSC (Rochester Soccer Club) a more competitive program, Little League Baseball and Softball, Dance Studios, and several basketball programs. |
